About Hippo Hills

Hippo Hills is a special holiday home located right in the wild heart of Africa. It is a five-hour drive from the Johannesburg airport and sits very close to the borders of Swaziland and Mozambique. We are right next door to the famous Kruger National Park—only 9km from the Crocodile Bridge Gate and 30km from the Malelane Gate. It’s the perfect place for families and friends to have a private adventure.

Hippo Hills was built for exactly this: a private, fully self-catered safari house for groups who want the bush on their doorstep without giving up their own space. As part of the Ngwenya Lodge resort, guests also have the resort's shared facilities on hand whenever they fancy a change of scene.

Welcome to Hippo Hills
Your Private Safari House

At Hippo Hills, you get the whole house to yourself! The lodge is big enough for 10 people. It has 5 private bedrooms, and every bedroom has its own bathroom. Imagine waking up to the sounds of the bush, walking out onto your porch, and seeing wild animals right in front of you. This happens all the time here!

Your Private Safari House
Hippo Hills sleeps up to 10 guests across 5 en-suite bedrooms, split between the ground floor and the upper floor, each with its own private bathroom so there's no queuing before a game drive. Several of the upstairs rooms open onto river-facing views, and it's not unusual to spot elephants or hippos without leaving your room.
What’s Inside the Lodge?
The house has everything you need to feel at home:

A Big Kitchen

It has a stove, fridge, freezer, microwave, air fryer, coffee machine and even a dishwasher. Everything you need to cook up a storm in luxury.

Living and Dining

There is a large table for eating and a comfy lounge with a TV.

Outdoor Entertainment

The living room opens up to a big porch. Outside, you’ll find a BBQ area (we call it a braai) and a beautiful "infinity pool" where you can swim while looking out at the Kruger National Park and all the animals that wander up to your private river view.

Our friendly team will help clean the house from Monday to Saturday. If you want help on Sunday, we can arrange that for a small fee. Just remember to bring your own food, drinks, snacks, salt, pepper, cooking oil, and napkins!

Safari Drives & Walks:

You can go on a guided tour of Kruger Park to see lions and elephants. You can even go on a "Foot Safari" where a ranger and a tracker show you how to find rhinos or watch monkeys play.

If you like excitement, you can try quad biking, fishing for Tiger Fish, or even flying in a micro-light plane!

Family Fun:

We have a game center for kids, a mini-golf course (putt-putt), tennis courts, and several swimming pools.

Relaxing:

You can visit the beauty salon for a treat or spend the day watching colourful birds from our bird hides.

THE BEST PART?

You don't even have to leave the house to see the wildlife. Many guests spend the whole day on the porch watching elephants, zebras, and buck walk right past the garden! Don't forget to bring your camera and binoculars! It's exactly the kind of relaxed, no-agenda day that makes Hippo Hills work so well for families and groups of friends travelling together.
