Terms of Service & Booking Conditions

Welcome to Hippo Hills. By making a booking at our private lodge, you (the "Guest") agree to the following terms and conditions.

1. Reservation & Payment Policy

• Booking Deposit: A 50% deposit of the total accommodation fee is required to secure your reservation.

• Balance Payment: The remaining balance must be paid in full at least 60 days prior to your scheduled arrival date.

• Late Bookings: Reservations made within 60 days of arrival must be paid in full at the time of booking.

• Confirmation: A "Confirmation to Occupy" will only be issued once the full payment has been received and cleared in our account.

2. Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellations must be received in writing. The following fees apply:

• 60+ days before arrival: 50% of the deposit is refundable.

• 30 to 59 days before arrival: No refund is applicable (0% refund).

• Less than 30 days before arrival: No refund is applicable.

• We strongly recommend that guests take out comprehensive travel insurance to cover any unforeseen cancellations.

3. Occupancy & Use of Facilities

• Maximum Occupancy: Hippo Hills accommodates a maximum of 10 guests. This limit is strictly enforced. Over-occupancy will result in immediate eviction without a refund.

• Check-in / Check-out:

  • Check-in: From 14:00 PM.

  • Check-out: By 10:00 AM (to allow for cleaning and preparation for the next guests).

• Housekeeping: Service is included from Monday to Saturday. Housekeeping on Sundays or Public Holidays can be arranged at an additional fee with prior notice.

4. House Rules

• Self-Catering: Hippo Hills is a self-catering unit. Guests are responsible for providing their own consumables, including food, drinks, and personal toiletries.

• Noise & Conduct: We are located in a peaceful nature reserve. Loud music and rowdy behavior are strictly prohibited. Guests must respect the tranquility of the environment and other residents in the Ngwenya Lodge resort.

• Pets: No pets of any kind are allowed on the property or within the resort.

• Smoking: Smoking is prohibited inside the lodge. Please use the designated outdoor areas and dispose of cigarette butts responsibly.

5. Health, Safety & Environment

• Malaria Area: Hippo Hills is situated in a known malaria area. We strongly advise guests to consult a medical professional regarding malaria prophylaxis before arrival and to use mosquito repellent during their stay.

• Wildlife: The lodge overlooks the Kruger National Park. Wild animals (including the Big 5) frequent the riverbed in front of the lodge. Do not feed, provoke, or attempt to touch any wildlife.

• Pool Safety: The infinity pool is used at the guests' own risk. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

6. Liability & Indemnity

• General Liability: Hippo Hills, its owners, and employees shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, injury, or death sustained by any guest or visitor, or for any loss or damage to their property, regardless of the cause.

• Resort Facilities: While guests have access to the facilities at Ngwenya Lodge (e.g., restaurant, tennis courts), Hippo Hills is not responsible for the availability or condition of these third-party amenities.

• Personal Belongings: It is the guest's responsibility to ensure their valuables are locked away or supervised.

7. Breakages & Damages

The guest is liable for any breakages or damage caused to the lodge, its furniture, or equipment during their stay. We reserve the right to invoice the guest for the cost of repairs or replacements.

8. Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
